明日の叙景(Asunojokei) - "すべてか弱い願い(Wishes)"(CD EP)

Tokyo's post-black metal, Epic of Tomorrow, will release their 2020 EP, “All Weak Wishes,” which is an important transitional work from their first album to their second, “Island.

Since the release of the album “What Was Me and Myself” in 2018, the band has released a 4-way split “Two” with their contemporaries Pale, nhomme, and Fuyushikaso in 2019, and a split with Canadian post-black metal band Unreqvited in 2020. The band has been releasing a new EP in December of this year without waiting for 2021... This is their long-awaited solo album, and as usual, the band has been showing a sense of theme in each of their works.

Listening to the album, the vocals are further back than in the “It Was Me and Myself” album, and it is clear that the guitars are taking care of the melodies. And the band's most distinctive feature, the use of melancholic harmony in the guitar sound and the beauty of the construction, has definitely been updated since the album... I think, however, that the direction of the music and the performance, including the vocals, are more like the album “It Was Me and Myself” these days. I think the direction of the songs, the direction of the performance including vocals, and the sound production were all different, and it was a grand experiment. I also feel that it was a grand experiment.

In Japan, there are almost no bands that can be called “post-black metal,” and of course such a scene does not exist. I am glad to know that there are young bands who are not bound by existing conservative values (i.e., not going for the masses) and are looking ahead, because I am a right-winger after all.

I think that “Tomorrow's Scenes” excels in terms of music, taste, and above all, in terms of the quality of the questions they ask. But it's not just finished. I think it is a big theme whether they can establish their signature in terms of sound.
