One live video uploaded to YouTube in May 2025 created a worldwide buzz about the band. The band, FIRST DAY BACK, was formed by five college students based in Santa Cruz, California. Many of you may be thinking, yes, this band is named after a BRAID song. The ongoing college students are playing everything from the atmosphere to everything is 90's emo (especially around 97 and 98). A female vocal emo/indie rock band by Maggie, who is half Japanese. Maggie was the core of a 90's emo band, but it took her a year to form the band because she could not find anyone in the same age bracket with the same tastes as her. However, the band finally found members with the same tastes and started to move forward, and they are now releasing their debut album with 9 songs. The band is proud to present the serious, pure, and incomplete feelings of that generation, which were possessed by such pioneers of that era as Braid, Cap'n Jazz, The Promise Ring, Mineral, Jejune, and Sunny Day Real Estate, whom they admired and respected, The sound of these pioneers from the same generation as when they were active should resonate with anyone who encountered the so-called “emo” bands of the late 90's that played in ensembles of static and movement. Interestingly, their method of activity also follows the DIY method of the 90's. The music was recorded almost exclusively in one shot. The sound quality is also very much in the 90's, as it was recorded almost exclusively in one shot (on purpose, to give it an airy feel). I like the way they spice up the sound with violins and harmonica, rather than making it all about technicality. I am not sure what generation of the movement it is now, despite its birthplace, but I am glad to see a serious band with respect for the pioneers appear on the scene. おまたせしましたアナログ盤も登場です。CDはソールドアウトです。2025年5月にYouTubeにアップロードされた1本のライブ動画により世界中で話題となったバンドがいます。カリフォルニア州サンタクルーズを拠点とする大学生の5人が結成したのが、そのFIRST DAY BACK。恐らくこのバンド名で、もしや?と思われる方も多いと思いますが、そうです、このバンドはBRAIDの曲名から名付けられた。現在進行系の大学生が奏でているのは空気感から何もかも全てが90'sエモ(特に97、98年ごろの)なのです。日本人とのハーフである女性ボーカルエモ/インディーロックバンド。このMaggieを中心に90'sエモバンドを結成に動くも、やはり同年代で趣向の合うメンバーになかなか出会えず結成までは1年間費やしたそうです。しかし、ついに同じ趣向を持つメンバーが出会いこのバンドは動き始め、完成したデビュー音源となる9曲入りアルバムをリリース。彼等が敬愛するBraid、Cap’n Jazz、The Promise Ring、Mineral、Jejune、Sunny Day Real Estateといったあの時代の先駆者たちが持っていた、シリアスでピュアで未完成なあの世代ならではの感情を、その先駆者たちが当時活動していた頃と同世代の彼等が鳴らしているのは、90年代後期に所謂エモと言われた静と動のアンサンブルを奏でるバンドに出会った人であれば共鳴してくれるはずでしょう。面白いことに彼等の活動方法も90年代のDIYメソッドに則ったもの。ほぼ一発録音で制作されたが故に(空気感を出すためにわざとです)、音質も90年代を再現しているという徹底ぶりです。テクニカルではあるけれど、テクニカルであることを全面に出すのではなく、そこにバイオリンやハーモニカでスパイスを入れている彼等のセンスが好きです。発祥の国であるにも関わらず、今では第何世代ムーブメントなのかはわかりませんが、こうして先駆者へのリスペクトを詰め込んだシリアスなバンドが現れたのは嬉しい限り。せひ聴いていただきたい。
