Converge - "No Heroes"(CD)

The 2006 album has been reissued, and for some reason, it's happening in 2021, which marks the 20th anniversary of ‘Jane Doe’... Why?

But considering the recent trend of reissuing old albums alongside the release of new Converge material, it might have been inevitable. While ‘Jane Doe’ and ‘You Fail Me’ have quite different directions, I think there's a consistent thread running through the works released after ‘You Fail Me.’ The original release of this album was in 2006, but even back then, it was metal, hardcore, and I remember that even screamo listeners could resonate with their emotional and melancholic expressions to some extent.

Upon revisiting it, the sound is dirtier than Converge's current work, and the vocals are not separated at all. There's a certain coolness to this cohesive sound. And the music video still feels outdated when watched today. That's fine.

2006年のアルバムがリイシュー、それも何故か『Jane Doe』の20周年となる2021年に...いったい何故。

でもここ数年のConvergeの新作リリースペースと並行する旧譜の再プレスの流れからしても必然だったのかもしれない。『Jane Doe』、『You Fail Me』の2枚はかなりその方向性が違うと思うんだけど、『You Fail Me』以降には1つの軸があると思う。本作のオリジナルリリースは2006年だけど当時としてもメタルであり、ハードコアであり、そして激情リスナーもそのエモーショナルや哀愁を感じさせる彼らの表現にある程度共鳴するものを覚えていたと思う。改めて聴いてみると、今のConvergeよりも音はダーティだしボーカルの声も全然分離していない。この塊になったような音のかっこよさがあると思う。そしてMVは今観てもダサいとは思う。それでいい。
