Coven - "Après l'orage" (LP)

French post-hardcore band Coven's 2024 album might be their best yet. Is the increased weight in the drums a result of the songs becoming more linear? “Après l'orage” (French for “After the Storm”) symbolizes reconstruction and hope following emotional chaos and destruction. It seems their past works also expressed themes linking natural phenomena like heat and blizzards to human inner emotions.

Furthermore, this album uses not only French but multiple languages across its tracks, revealing a deliberate effort to open up the world amidst a global trend of conservative isolationism. This undoubtedly connects to the album's title. On “Nos Fantômes,” Mr. Yoshitake from killie/envy appears to have contributed to both the music and artwork.

フランスのポストハードコア、Covenの2024年アルバムはこれまでの作品の中でも最高かもしれない。ドラムの重みを感じるようになったのは楽曲が直線的になった影響なのか?「Après l'orage」(フランス語で「嵐の後」)は、感情的な混乱や破壊の後に訪れる再構築や希望を象徴している。どうやら過去作も、暑さや吹雪など自然現象との人間の内面的な感情を結びつけたモチーフをもって表現しているらしい。また、本作ではフランス語だけではなく、多数の言語を各楽曲で使用しており、世界が保守的に閉じていく国際社会の流れの中で彼らが意志を持って世界を開いていこうという表現が見て取れる。それはきっとアルバムのタイトルとも繋がっている。「Nos Fantômes」ではkillie/envyの吉武さんも楽曲/アートワークへ関わっているようです。
