Kidder is a four-piece band from Tokyo formed during the COVID-19 pandemic after its members had been part of numerous other bands.
Following the release of their first album this past March, they’ve already announced their second album.
Featuring eight tracks that capture their energetic activities—haunted by the ghosts of parties like their now-regular “Lesson” series—and shatter their past history to smithereens.
Thin hardcore punk soup, noise so thick a comb won’t penetrate it, a hodgepodge of DNA cut by the letter “R,” and text strings bent at an oblique angle—their expression piled things up, only to collapse neatly, just as expected.
As with the previous release, the sound engineer—who continues to drop a wide range of genres and numerous works—is Yusuke Shinma of Studio REIMEI and VINCE;NT, and Mikey Young of Total Control and Eddy Current. The artwork features illustrations by Puzu Huang, a new-wave artist from Taipei.

KIDDER’s lineup consists of TANABE (Vo., Gt.) from My Society Pissed, ex-Malegoat, and ex-LIPUPS; EDA (Gt.) from threadyarn and THE GHAN; MARU (Dr.) from Nogio Angel & The Ska’nPin Bon-Bon’s, ex-your pest band, and ex-flower zombies; and YASUKO (Ba.) from ex-LIPUPS. Their psychedelic and bizarre post-punk/hardcore sound is built on an exquisite balance. On their second release, the band’s ensemble and sound production have taken on a clearer direction, while the B-side of the cassette features more mature and artistic tracks—yet it still leaves you feeling there’s plenty of room for the next stage.
They resonate with bands like The Cure, Q And Not U, Antelope, Built To Spill, Deerhoof, 6eyes, and Panicsmile, as well as recent Japanese alternative bands such as Power, Texas 3000, Dubia 80000cc, and Sugar House!
