Formed in 2014, the Malaysian five-piece hardcore band PIRI REIS features members from the country's legendary screamo bands Utarid and Kias Fansuri. What they express is an emo violence for those living in this era, intertwined with a melancholy deeply rooted in the history and culture that forms the backdrop of their lives. There is certainly something relatable about this for us living far away in Japan.

The band has a long history, releasing a demo EP immediately after forming in 2014. Since then, they've released numerous split records with bands like Coma Regalia, Child Meadow, They Sleep We Live, and Tokyo's Sto Cosi Cosi (with whom they toured Japan in 2016). This is their first full-length album. The vinyl release of this album came in 2022 as a joint release with labels like Moment of Collapse Records, React With Protest, and Zegema Beach Records – labels most trusted by “GEKI-JOU” hardcore listeners. It stands as the band's greatest masterpiece to date, hailed as Southeast Asia's finest emo violence.

Its songs, performances, and sound perfectly embody “GEKI-JOU” and chaos. The skramz expression Orchid sowed has finally blossomed across time and distance in Asia. Hearing this sound instantly confirms its authentic emo violence. The fact that Will Killingsworth (Dead Air Studios / ex.Orchid, Ampere) handled the mastering is another undeniable highlight.

2014年に結成されたマレーシアの5ピースハードコアバンドPIRI REISは、同国の伝説的ScreamoバンドUtarid,Kias Fansuriのメンバーも参加しており、彼らが表現するものは今の時代を生きる者達へのエモバイオレンスであり彼らの生活の背景にある歴史・文化と密接にリンクした哀愁でもある。それは遠く日本に暮らす我々にとっても通じるものが確かにある。

バンドの歴史は長く、2014年の結成後すぐにDEMO EPを発表。その後はComa Regalia、Child Meadow、They Sleep We Live、そして2016年には共に日本ツアーを行う東京のSto Cosi Cosiといったバンドとスプリットリリースを重ねてきたがフルアルバムは今作が初。本作のレコード盤は2022年 Moment of Collapse Records, React With Protest, Zegema Beach Recordsといった激情ハードコアリスナーにとっては最も信頼おけるレーベル達との共同リリースにて発表されており、東南アジア最高のエモバイオレンスとも評されるバンド史上最高傑作となっている。その楽曲、演奏、サウンド、まさに完璧なレベルで激情と混沌を表現しており、Orchidが種子を撒いたskramz表現が遂に時代と距離を超えてアジアの地で花開いており、その音を聴けば一瞬で本物のエモバイオレンスだとわかる確かな表現がそこにある。Will Killingsworth(Dead Air Studios / ex.Orchid,Ampere)がマスタリングを担当していることも間違いないポイント。
