Potence - "Cinq Années De Nuit De Nuit" (LP)

This is the 2024 album by Potence, a French hardcore band that also includes members of Daitro, Geranium, and Farewell.

It's really cool, to say the least, as if defying the recent trend of converging to one solution even as a type of music genre, something that is skramz but not skramz, something that is neocrust but not neocrust, this expression of depth is really great.

The last album was released in 2019, and although I thought it was cool back then, I could feel that the band is moving forward as a band again after 5 long years. The title "Cinq Années De Nuit" translates to "Night of the 5th Year," an expression of being aware of the time that has passed, and of the various issues that society is currently facing, but still from a place that is rooted in life.

はっきり言ってめちゃくちゃかっこいいな、音楽ジャンルの型としても1つの解答に収斂していく昨今の流れに抗うかのような、激情ハードコアでありながら激情ハードコアでは何か、ネオクラストでありながらネオクラストではない何か、この奥行きのある表現は本当に素晴らしい。前作のリリースが2019年で、当時もかっこいいと思ったけれど5年という長い時間をかけてまたバンドはバンドとして進んでいるんだなということを感じられた。タイトル「Cinq Années De Nuit」は翻訳すると「5年目の夜」、すぎていく時間に対しても自覚的であり、現在社会の直面している様々な問題に対しても今までと同じく生活に根差した場所から放たれる表現。
