Sed Non Satiata - "Mappo "(LP)

Sed Non Satiata's 2013 release. This one has finally been repressed as well. The gatefold jacket is also wonderful.

The previous self-titled album was released in 2011, so this one was released at a pretty good pace, but the sound is more aggressive than the previous album. The slow parts are still dark and full of sorrow, but the aggressive songs from the first track onwards inevitably get you pumped up. It's a relief that they didn't go down the extreme atmospheric post-rock/emo route, but they haven't returned to the style of their previous works either. Instead, they've evolved the sound further, emphasizing the contrast between light and darkness, movement and stillness, while staying true to the spirit of their previous work.

The opening tracks are great, and the sound builds up toward the climax in the latter half is intense. The persuasive power of these veterans, who have pioneered the French screamo scene alongside Daitro, is genuine.

When compared to the simultaneously released “Le Ciel De Notre Enfance b/w Daitro split LP,” the difference is clear, but their direction is increasingly diverging from the screamo European sound of the 2000s.

While these tracks might be avoided by younger listeners seeking the aggressive, fast-paced sound of early Suis La Lune, La Quiete, or Raein, I think their continued commitment to presenting new possibilities as one of the scene's leading bands—especially now that Daitro has ceased activities—is truly admirable.

Sed Non Satiataの2013年作。こちらも遂に再プレス。見開き仕様のジャケットも素晴らしい。

前作のセルフタイトル音源が2011年なので結構良いペースでリリースされた本作ですが、前作の雰囲気とは変わってアグレッシブなサウンドとなっています。スローパート多めの暗く悲哀たっぷりな叙情展開は相変わらずですが、一曲目から攻めな楽曲があるのは必然的にブチ上がらざるを得ない。極端なアトモスフェリックなポストロック/エモ路線に走らなくて本当に良かったが、かと言って過去作のような路線に戻っているという感じでもない。あくまで前作の延長線上に居ながらサウンドをより前のめりに、光と闇、動と静のコントラストをより躍動的に進化させてきたという感じだ。

前半の切り込み方も良いし、後半のラストへ向けて上り詰めていくサウンドがやばい。フランス激情シーンの最前線をDaitroと共に切り開いて来たベテラン故の説得力は本物だ。
同じタイミングでのリリースとなった"Le Ciel De Notre Enfance b/w Daitro split LP"と聴き比べてみるとその差は歴然だが、彼らの進む方向は00年代の欧州激情なサウンドとはどんどんかけ離れていく。攻撃的で展開の速い楽曲を演奏する初期Suis La LuneやLa Quiete,Raeinといったサウンドを求める若いリスナーからは敬遠されそうな楽曲かもしれないが、Daitroが活動を停止した今現在、シーンを牽引するバンドのひとつとして新しい可能性を提示し続ける彼らの姿勢は素晴らしいものだと思う。
