2023年、2枚のアルバム『UNDERTOW』『COMBER』を同時リリース後、SPOILMANは都内でのライブ活動と並行して東北、北海道、九州、関西へと積極的な全国ツアーを展開。その集大成として同年の12月23日に都内の公共施設を借り切りフリーライブを開催し、多くのオーディエンスが詰め掛けたこの日のライブは全23曲、90分に渡る熱演が繰り広げられた。The Jesus LizardやShellac、54-71といったノイズロック、ポストハードコア、オルタナティブロックを引き合いに語られる彼らだが、低予算の楽器機材でありながら高い演奏力と何割かの遊び心を以て楽曲を最大限に響かせるライブアクトの爆発力には、特定音楽ジャンルに限定されない普遍的な魅力がある。つまり、ライブバンドSPOILMANの魅力にフォーカスしたのが本作『20231223 Live at 滝野川西区民センター』なのである。
ライブ当日のPAはこれまでのSPOILMANのレコーディングに関わってきた沼田氏(Mannish Recording Studio)が、過去リリース作品と同様に録音からミックス・マスタリングまで担当し、当日の空気感を見事に記録・再現している。その録音の生々しさ故に、スタジオ作品以上のダイナミズム溢れる演奏が収められた本作には、来るAI時代における「バンドとは何か?」という問いにさえ解答し得る強度がある。

SPOILMAN's first free one-man live concert held at a public facility in Tokyo in 2023 was fully recorded and released as a 2-CD set with 23 songs and 94 minutes in total!

In 2023, after releasing two albums “UNDERTOW” and “COMBER” at the same time, SPOILMAN went on an aggressive nationwide tour to Tohoku, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Kansai in parallel with their live activities in Tokyo. As the culmination of the tour, SPOILMAN rented a public facility in Tokyo and held a free live concert on December 23 of the same year, However, the explosive power of their live performance, in which the band makes their songs resonate to the maximum with their high performance ability and a certain amount of playfulness despite their low budget instrumentation, has a universal appeal that is not limited to any specific genre of music. In other words, “20231223 Live at Takinogawa Nishi Kumin Center” focuses on the appeal of the live band SPOILMAN.

Mr. Numata (Mannish Recording Studio), who has been involved in SPOILMAN's past recordings, was in charge of the PA on the day of the live performance, from recording to mixing and mastering, just as he has done for past releases, to beautifully record and reproduce the atmosphere of the day. The vividness of the recordings and the dynamism of the performances, which are more than that of studio works, make this album an answer to the question, “What is a band in the coming AI era?
