Twilight Force - "Tales of Ancient Prophecies" (LP)

Twilight Force, a melodic power metal band from Sweden, has released an analog record!

Their music has spread widely and been welcomed by metal fans both in Japan and abroad. Their music is certainly full of energy. While it is symphonic and technical, what is most appealing to listeners is that it is overflowing with a primitive love of power metal. And the cheesy artwork, which gives off a sense of fantasy storytelling, is also thrilling (in a bad way).

The rise of fast-paced German metal led by Helloween, and the emergence of Hammerfall in the late 90s as the legitimate successors to Helloween, were welcomed in a scene showing signs of decline. The youthful energy seeking to reclaim that primal impulse likely appeared positive. And since the 2000s, the Japanese market has been saturated with bands from around the world, and I had distanced myself from the scene since Sonata Arctica, but this album brings back the feeling of that era in a passionate way.

In a music scene that has become increasingly complex and fragmented, their simple yet powerful direction shines all the more brightly. That said, it is important to note that this is not a mindless, reckless work. The arrangement sensibility is backed by musical sophistication, and the Celtic musical influences that hint at their roots blend beautifully with the metal sound.
