NØ MAN - "Glitter and Spit" (LP)

Washington, DC, NØ MAN's 2024 album.

Formed by three members of Majority Rule, which can be said to be the leading force of US rage along with pg.99, with the addition of Maha Shami, the band has released two albums since then, and this is an edited CD from 3LA.

During the transitional period from the first to the second album, the band's sound changed more viciously, and this trend is further reinforced in this album. On the other hand, some songs have a grunge or noise-rock feel to them, and overall, there is a wide range of music here. However, the 90's US feel of the Majority Rule members is strongly felt in this album.

Although this album was produced before the recent deterioration of the situation in Palestine, the context of the album is the absurdity, anger, and sadness that the Palestinian refugee parent, vocalist Maha Shami, unfortunately faces in today's world.

pg.99と共にUS激情の立役者とも言えるMajority Ruleのメンバー3人にMaha Shamiが加わって結成、その後2枚のアルバムをリリースしており3LAから編集盤CDとなっています。1stから2ndへの過渡期にバンドサウンドがより凶悪に変化しているのだが、本作ではその傾向が更に強まっている。一方ではグランジ、ノイズロックテイストな雰囲気も加味された楽曲もあり全体的には幅広い楽曲が揃っている。とはいえMajority Ruleメンバーならではの90's US感は強く感じるところではある。

近年のパレスチナ情勢悪化前に制作された作品とはいえ、パレスチナ難民の親を持つVoのMaha Shamiが背負っている文脈は不幸にも今日の世界に突き付けられる不条理と怒り、そして悲しみ。情けなくもアメリカとイスラエルに追従する日本国に住む1リスナーの自分、何ができるんだ。
