老人の仕事 (Roujin-no-shigoto)- "二(2nd)"(CD)

The enigmatic band Old Man's Work, who garnered an overwhelming reaction from doom/stoner heads nationwide even upon their 1st release, has finally released their 2nd album. This work is also fantastic.

Opening with the groaning vocals of an old man on the first track, “Clouds Below,” it kicks off with a sludgy stoner section before building into a catchy, groovy vibe later on. The way the song's mood shifts within a single track, combined with the incredibly cool playing and sound, means this EP is guaranteed to massively boost your QOL just from the first track alone. You'll likely find it even more satisfying than their first release.

As for changes from the previous work, the following track “Moon World” also boasts an excellent dub feel. While this kind of sound is often so pleasurable it can transport you all the way to space, the sense of distance implied by “the moon” is just right. The sound itself explores new territory, and this band shows considerable potential for collaboration with other artists. The final track, “Questioning the Spiral's Whirl,” features a fiery development incorporating metal percussion, solidifying that belief.

1st発表時にも圧倒的なリアクションをもって全国のドゥーム/ストーナーヘッズから反応があった謎のバンド、老人の仕事がついに2ndとなる音源をリリースしました。本作も素晴らしいです。
1曲目「眼下に雲」からおっさんのうめき声から幕を開け、ズルズルのストーナーパートから後半はノリノリになっていく謎のキャッチーさも発揮、1曲中でも曲の表情が変化していく様、そしてその演奏やサウンドもかなりかっこいいので、最初の曲だけでももうこのEPはQOLに多大な貢献することは確実。1st以上に満足度を既に味わってしまうでしょう。

前作からの変化としては続く「月世界」も素晴らしいダブ感、この手のサウンドは気持ち良すぎてついつい宇宙まで到達してしまうものが多いですが、あくまで"月"というこの距離感も良いです。サウンドも新境地で、このバンドは結構他アーティストとのコラボレーションも拡張性があって可能性を感じる。ラスト曲「螺旋の旋に問う」はメタルパーカッションも迎えた展開が熱くてそれを確信しますね。言葉をなくしてしまったインスト音楽でありながら、言葉以上に音が語るというのが非常に音楽。

暗黒x呪術感満載のトータルな雰囲気もこれまでにないもの。本作も既に多くのリスナーからオーダーを頂いていますが、バンドが更なる飛躍をするのは確実と思われます。
