kias - "Swatantra" (CD)

In the early 2000s in Malaysia, members of the now-legendary emo-violence band Kias Fansuri came together to form this band, Kias. Their musical style no longer features the raw, violent elements of that era; instead, it has evolved into what you might call an “envy-style” screamo sound in Japan. In fact, they’ve even invited Tetsu from envy to provide guest vocals—it’s almost too similar to envy. Since there’s one track featuring Tetsu as a guest vocalist, the question is which song it is… or rather, it could be any of them, creating a mysterious sense of tension as you never know when “that moment” will arrive.

 So, while they sound incredibly similar, there are still physical differences—like the unique sound and resonance of the Malay language, or the physical way the vocals are delivered. And if you listen closely, you’ll also notice other distinctions, such as the hybrid sensibility from the Kias Fansuri era that connects to European screamo.

マレーシアの00年代黎明期、今や伝説となっているエモバイオレンスKias Fansuriのメンバーが時代を経て結成したのがこのKiasというバンド。音楽のスタイルは当時のようなRAWでバイオレンスな要素は無くて、日本でいうenvy型の激情ハードコアスタイルとなった。というか、envyのテツさんまでゲストボーカルに迎えるなど、あまりにもenvyに似すぎている。テツさんゲスト曲が1曲存在するため、それがどの曲なのか...いや、どの曲でもあり得そうでいつ"その時"が来るかわからない謎の緊張感もある。で、めちゃ似てはいるけど、やっぱりマレー語の語感・響きみたいなもの、身体的な声の出し方など、そういったフィジカル面での違いもあるし、欧州Screamoにも接続するようなKias Fansuri時代のハイブリッド感など、細かく聴いていくとそういう違いもあるね。
