Beau Navire - "Lumens"(CD)

Beau Navire's 2012 album ‘Lumens’ is being reissued in 2025 by Dog Knights.
Back then, iwrotehaikus hadn't yet become the legend they are today, and they seemed part of a broader Discos Huelga-style faction that also included Loma Prieta and Punch. How times change. When I first got the original pressing, I thought it was their masterpiece. ‘Life Moves’ was great too, and the evolution from their previous album ‘Hours’ was shocking. However, this album, released about a year later, had even greater depth. It masterfully blends the aesthetic sensibility and melancholy of European screamo with the bloodline passed down from the pioneers of US emo violence. My impression is that this album features more solid melodies and a more powerful ensemble. It conveys violence while simultaneously housing sorrow on the same layer, and that balance was truly magnificent.
So, for those of you who weren't around in the 2010s, this is an album I really want you to listen to.

2012年にリリースされたBeau Navireのアルバム『Lumens』が2025年Dog Knightsより再発。
当時はまだiwrotehaikusも今程の伝説にはなっていなくて、Discos Huelga系というかLoma PrietaやPunchもひっくるめた一派という印象もあったけれど、時代は巡ったね。オリジナル盤を入荷した当時は最高傑作だと思った。『Life Moves』も良かったし、前作『Hours』への進化も衝撃だった。しかしながらその約1年後のリリースとなった本作では更なる深みがあった。欧州激情の美的感覚や物悲しさを取り入れながらもUSエモバイオレンス先人達から脈々と受け継がれている血をうまくミックスさせている。よりメロディが強固に、そしてアンサンブルも力強くなったのが本作という印象で、バイオレンスを感じさせながら同じレイヤーに哀愁も居て、そのバランスが本当に見事だったんですよね。
というわけで、2010年代にリアルタイムじゃなかった皆さんにも是非聴いていただきたい作品なのです。
