“Old School Death Metal Guidebook” by the author and the “dark music” editor of a certain union, in the music fanzine diSSUE Vol. 4
The 2026 issue has arrived. I bought a copy at the Tokyo Book Fair and have already read it—once again, the content is rich and substantial. Since I had been listening to Immolation’s new album the day before the Bunfuri event, the content felt particularly timely to me. It’s also a must-read because it covers areas that neither B! magazine nor Headbang magazine typically focus on. One unique feature is the chapter on “Teach Me ‘Sayonara o Oshiete’,” which was quite interesting as well. As always, I can’t help but feel the cover price is a bit too low, but I highly recommend picking this up along with the previous volume, Vol. 3 (the Black Metal issue), which was also a massive issue.
