HIMO - "HARDCORE VIBRATION" (CD)

A new album by Kita Shinjuku HIMO is out.
HIMO's live show is really great, and I would like you to see it if you haven't seen them yet (although I haven't seen them recently). Despite the physicality of their live act, I think their sound recordings are challenging in terms of how to capture the explosiveness of their live performances in their recordings. The sound is not the old punk-hardcore sound, but it is different from the dynamics expressed by the slow and rapid pace of skramz/screamo, and when you think they hit you with an overwhelming flat sound mass, there are also emotional expressions full of sentiment, and since each song is very short, the ups and downs of the album as a whole, as if it is folding up, create a tremendous texture as a result. The harmonies are dissonant and emotionally unstable, but in the midst of this raging momentum, human “life” is depicted. Is this Shinjuku? However, the sound is from a place in Tokyo that can be considered the outskirts of the music scene, and it is underground.

北新宿HIMOの新しいアルバムが出ます。
HIMOのライブはマジで最高なので未見の方はぜひ見てほしいのですが(といいつつ、最近見ていないですが)、フィジカル全開のライブアクトと裏腹に音源のほうではそのライブの爆発感をいかに録音に落とし込むかという挑戦的な姿勢があると思う。いわゆる旧来のパンクハードコア的な音ではなく、かといって激情ハードコア的な緩急で表現するダイナミクスとも違う、圧倒的平面な音塊で殴りつけてきたかと思えば、情緒溢れる感情的な表現もあり、かつ1曲毎の時間はとても短いので畳み掛けるようなアルバム全体としての起伏が結果的にものすごい質感を醸し出している。情緒不安定とも言える不協和音的なハーモニーだが、この怒涛の勢いの中で人間の"生"というものが描き出されていく。これが新宿か...といえば誤解があるような気もするが、しかし東京都内でありながら、音楽シーンの番外地とも取れる場所で鳴らされる音であり、アンダーグラウンドなのだ。
