This is the second album released in 2014 by a post-metal duo from California.
Although they are a two-piece post-metal band, the content they express is quite complex. They successfully balance experimental spirit and artistic sensibility. Their sound, which incorporates strong elements of noise, drone, and ambient music, cannot be easily described in a single word, but in terms of exploring new possibilities in extreme music, it can be said that they are truly “post-metal.”
Tracks 1 and 2 deliver a thunderous assault, as if to assert their metal identity, but the subsequent tracks 3 and 4 transport the listener to an entirely different world. The drum beats, which mark the passage of time in silence, are inorganic yet somehow raw and unsettling. The album as a whole appears to have a conceptual structure, with its theme delving into the human psyche.
It feels like an album that embodies the Stoicism of a philosopher, expressing the weaknesses, jealousy, contradictions, and fears that lie within the human spirit and body through sound.
The intense, emotional vocals are accompanied by industrial beats and noise that create a trippy yet relentlessly dark atmosphere. There is no salvation here.
