Duma -"Duma" (LP)

quiqui's Ibarada-recommended industrial/grindcore from Nairobi. While chatting with quiqui, he introduced me to several bands, and this Duma resonated with what I thought 3LA customers might like—or rather, I liked it myself, so I stocked it.He introduced me to many others too, but their musical tastes leaned heavily into drone and ambient, so I passed on those this time.

Regarding this DUMA, while the members already have established careers in other bands or projects, I feel the “ex.” prefix is unnecessary here.It's unique in achieving a fusion of industrial noise, power electronics, black metal, and African music (essentially deviating from the established path) and managing to drift over to the other side. But also, the sheer “physicality” of the jacket artwork and the image the artist projects resonates with hardcore listeners too.

In a sense, it might represent the pinnacle of the industrial elements glimpsed within quiqui's discography.The concept itself – resetting mental knowledge to appeal physically, seeing new light at the end of a dance of blood and flesh – feels like the last bastion musicians should express in this Instagram SNS era.

quiquiの居原田推薦のナイロビ発インダストリアル/グラインドコア。quiquiと話しているときにいくつか音楽を教えてもらったんだけど、このDumaについては3LAのお客様に共鳴しそうなものがあり、というか僕が気に入ったので入荷しました。他にもたくさん教えてもらったけど、彼らの音楽的趣味がずいぶんドローンやアンビエント方面にいってしまっていたので今回はスルーしている。

このDUMAだが、メンバーは元々別のバンドなりプロジェクトなりで既にキャリアを築いているが、今回に関してはex.〜という情報自体が不要だと思う。インダストリアルなノイズ、パワーエレクトロニクス、ブラックメタルとアフリカ音楽との融合を果たし（つまりは既定路線からの逸脱を計り）そして向こう側へ漂着することの出来たという点でも特異ではあるが、ジャケットアートワークや、アーティストが発信するイメージがとにかく"フィジカル"であるという点も、激情ハードコアリスナーにも共鳴するものがあると思う。ある意味でquiquiの暦の中に垣間見えるインダストリアル要素の極地とも言えるかもしれない。脳みその知識をいったんリセットしてフィジカルで訴える、血と肉体のダンスの果てに新たな光を見る、というコンセプト自体がこのインスタグラムSNS時代の中で音楽家が表現すべき最後の砦のようにも思えるのだ。

一度死ね、そして復活せよ。
