Massa Nera, a force in hardcore, continues to push screamo outward. In a past interview, they claimed they weren’t trying to “update” the genre and yet… they absolutely are. And it feels intentional.

They seem to be transforming the explosive energy of emoviolence into something closer to a darker post-hardcore form, where silence and weight are carefully constructed to shape space itself. That direction is also reflected in their choice of engineer, James Plotkin, signaling a clear connection to drone, industrial, and experimental realms.

I’ve always felt a lineage connecting them to City of Caterpillar, but it comes paired with a kind of post-rock-informed inward immersion.

Where is their screamo headed? Toward a new kind of end.

激情ハードコア、Massa NeraはScreamoを拡張していく。以前のインタビューでは「僕たちはスクリーモを "アップデート" しようとはしていない」と言ったのに！めちゃしてるじゃん！しかも意図的に。
エモバイオレンス寄りの爆発力をダークなポストハードコアのスタイルへとエネルギー変換し、静けさと重さ、その構築によって生み出される空間そのものを表現するというような方向性がありそう。それはJames Plotkinというエンジニア起用(ドローン/インダストリアル/エクスペリメンタルとの明確な接続だ)にも表れているかと思う。City Of Caterpillarからの文脈を受け継ぐ音を以前から感じていたが、それはポストロック的な意識内部への没入感とセットだ。彼らのScreamoは何処に向かうのか。新たなる終末へ...。
