Many neocrust bands were once classified as Tragedy-type, and indeed this band possessed that level of influence. The existence of this album was immensely significant. Therefore, it's difficult to break free from the influence once bestowed upon them. Though not literally as the title “His Hero Is Gone” suggests, they needed to break free from the hero archetype they themselves admired. Yet this album also became a massive wall standing in their way. It's a must-have masterpiece, essential listening for any 3LA fan. And even now, it never fades; it possesses an emotional power that stirs you every time you hear it.

It thrusts its darker elements to the forefront while racing along melodically, with melodies that cry out. The sound's texture likely played a major role in resonating with many screamo hardcore listeners. Simple, yet the fusion concept and its execution were inventive. It shouldn't be confined solely to screamo hardcore or neocrust; it's one of the defining hardcore albums of the 2000s. Listening to it now, you'll absolutely discover something new.
